Temperature Equality between Men and Women

Respected Sir/ Madam,

Once again I am writing this letter through you to our PM Modiji. As Modiji is passing bills in the Parliament like he is playing some IPL match, I thought the fastest way to reach him will be through your esteemed newspaper. I want him to pass this very very important bill.

The idea for this bill came from a brief interaction I had with my learned friend Raogaru, about whom I have told you before. We met at our morning walk today and this is a brief of the conversation I had with him.

Rao : Good morning JB... You don't look your normal cheerful self today.. Is everything OK ?

JB : Good morning... I am a bit down. I did not sleep well last night.

Rao : Why ? Mosquitoes !!

JB : No no.. My wife Mangalam has made our house a fortress against mosquitoes. Nets in all windows. Evening our house has the Good Knight fragrance. Later, Mangalam wields her Mosquito bat like Federer and kills whatever remains.

Rao : Then..

JB : As the temperature in Chennai has dropped a bit, Mangalam got up in the middle of the night and put off the fan. I cannot sleep without the fan on.

Rao : Oh... I am sure you have other rooms in your house... You could have gone there and slept. You are not that young any more !

JB : Oh..nothing like that.. Just that old habits die hard... Whenever I am in town, Mangalam insists we sleep in the same bed.

Rao : You have to decide, whether you need to stick to your old habits or you need a good night's sleep.

JB : Oh.. this is a year long problem. In summer, we fight over the temperature of AC and in other seasons where the fan regulator should be set. In better part of the year, when the fan is on, I sleep with a light sheet and Mangalam has a blanket on. But last night she insisted on putting the fan off.

Rao : I can understand your wife's predicament.. She is a female...I have read that female metabolism is slower than male and they have lesser muscle mass... So even if both male and female internal body temperatures are the same at 98. 6 degrees, women prefer the external temperature to be three degrees higher than male's.. It is biology, my friend.

JB : What mannangkatti biology ? Modi wants to make marriageable age for women as 21 years, just like men.. Is there no biology there ?

Rao : You have a point.. Maybe, Modi can help you.

JB : Yes !... I will ask Modiji to enact a law for deciding what should be the the room temperature when a man and woman are in the same room...Then once Modiji sets the law, Mangalam can do nothing... That is my only hope for a good night's sleep.

If it is a biological issue, then I am sure this problem is not uniquely mine. In the interest of the humankind, I request Modiji to enact a law for regulating the temperature in the bed rooms... Since Modiji, may have never faced this problem, he can setup a Joint Parliamentary Committee under Shashi Tharoor to decide the optimum room temperature. This will promote domestic harmony and thereby social stability.

Yours in anticipation,

J Bhoothalingam
